The Apricot Centre

Johnny Meredith our trainee counsellor in Devon offering his time at the farm

I have been aware of the Apricot Centre since its inception. I have witnessed not only the physical change to the land but also the positive effect it has had on people and the local community.

I was very excited to be offered the opportunity to join the wellbeing team for my Heartwood College placement and work alongside peers with a common purpose and motivation.

I started my placement just as the Covid pandemic entered all our lives, this only highlighted the importance of ventures like the Apricot Centre, providing physical and mental wellbeing in harmony with nature.

Covid restrictions initially impacted my options in meeting clients however as the restrictions eased, I was able again to offer face to face sessions, within the guidelines. Then the sessions took the form of Walk and Talk. I have loved combining talking therapy with the nurturing benefits of being in nature and the creativity and spontaneity that comes with it. My clients have responded well to their sessions with one client commenting that they couldn’t imagine therapy not being outside.

As well as Walk and Talk I have offered online sessions where needed. I am excited now to be able to offer face to face sessions again in The Pod at the Apricot Centre.

Johnny has some specific times available to offer working with adults.
